  • Jon Ritman (Interview) - Jon Ritman & Bernie Drummond

Full issue on archive.org

Well, Jon Ritman and Bernie Drummond had us "Only Kidding" they'd left the Speccy! Imagine abandoning our beloved machine for some fancy "Razz boards" and arcade fluff. Good old Graeme Kidd found them, still clean, though their *new* game sounds suspiciously over-specced. At least Jon Ritman's success means he'll never have to wash dishes. Bah! Some people just don't know true perfection, do they?

  • Night Raider (CompoEntry)

Full issue on archive.org

Well, well, what have we here? Bandits at 12 O'Clock sounds like a thrilling Speccy dogfight! This page delivers a corker of a compo from those Gremlin chaps, offering a *proper* flying machine as a prize (none of your puny 16-bit tat, this!). And look, more flight sim action, showing just what our beloved ZX can do. Find those words, chums! Pure YS fun. Just don't let Squiffy and Boffo choose words for next time!

  • Deathchase (Review)
  • Tetris (Review)
  • Street Gang Football (Review)

Full issue on archive.org

Well, look at this, dearies. A smashing page! They’re finally admitting our Speccy version of Tetris is better than those flashy 16-bit machines – about time! Elsewhere, there’s baseball, an American pursuit, but Hardball!’s a good Speccy conversion. Then some Code Masters budget bafflement and Death Chase, a surprise treat. Good, honest fun, mostly!

  • Diablo! (Review)

Full issue on archive.org

Well hello there, pet! This month’s YS Adventures is jam-packed, especially with a huge review of DIABLO! Looks like a proper epic, with a Devil on board the Discovery! Good to see our Speccy writers are mostly staying loyal, though those 16-bit temptresses are always lurking. Uncle Mike's had a good chat with one, bless him. And a new Zenobi game by Mike Gerrard, perhaps? Ooh, I do love a good mystery!

  • Switchblade (Solution)

Full issue on archive.org

Well, my little Speccy addicts, Leigh Loveday’s done the business combining the Tip O' The Month with a frankly enormous Switchblade solution. All those enemy facts, weapons, and general tips – a right mega-humongous treat! No silly joystick waggling here, just pure, brain-taxing Speccy triumph. Now off you go, chop chop!

  • Vixen (Poster)

Full issue on archive.org

Ooh, Aunty Madge spots a wild one! This month's Your Sinclair poster features a rather striking jungle girl with a formidable whip and a rather stylish leopard print number. Plenty of green foliage, and she's certainly got that 'ready for action' look. Just the sort of eye candy to inspire your next epic Spectrum quest, unlike those drab Amstrad posters, eh?

Aunty Madge here, with another vital YS MAP! This Platoon beauty is a godsend for any proper Speccy soldier. Forget fumbling around aimlessly like those poor C64 owners; Andrew Waller's laid out your path to the village, torch, and explosive. No excuses for getting lost now, is there? Get stuck in, soldier!

Cor blimey, it's January already! They tell me this is a special, seeing as it's our 5th birthday bonanza. Where has the time gone eh? Not been wasted on those other 8-bit machines I TELL THEE! We've got another free tape this month for all yer Speccy owners, and a free badge, if you can work out which one of them pop stars was engaged to a Five Star girly. Get those coupons filled in, I wanna see some correct answers.

And if you're stuck inside because it's freezing, then you can curl up and read the bumper reviews. Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, Dragon Breed... and of course, some complete rubbish too. Well, not if I'm giving 'em away in the Superstore, mind. Now, off you pop - and tell your friends, the Spectrum's still the bestest!

Ooh, hello there, my little cherubs! Aunty Madge has been having a gander at these Red Boxes, and cor, what a marvel! Why settle for just playing Manic Miner when your Speccy can stop daylight robberies, eh? They've even got code words on ‘em – like a secret agent's lair it is.

For only one hundred and twenty-nine smackers, you can have your humble Spectrum bossing the kettle and toaster when Dan Dare is on the telly! It’s just the ticket for a lazy Sunday. Tell you what, though, don’t go fitting any Commodore clobber in your Speccy set-up, that’s just asking for trouble, that is. Now where's my crimplene shopping bag. I'm off for a gin! Toodle-pip!

  • Phantomas 2 (Review)

Alright, petal, picture this: two great big cartoon hands, like they've wandered off the telly, are holding up a tattered bit of what looks like stained parchment. It's all aged yellowy colour and crinkly at the edges from whoever sketched this map having sweaty palms.

The map itself is a wonky, isometric maze, all zig-zaggy brickwork and bizarre rooms drawn in crude black lines. Scattered about inside are symbols - a little stick man getting hit by lightning, a cauldron, and loads of 'X' marks the spot. At the bottom is scrawled a legend and I'd hate to be the one trying to decipher it on my rubber-keyed wonder. This is how real Speccy owners used to game, before all the touchy-feely modern nonsense. And don't get me started on them Commodore and Amstrad owners!

  • Datel Electronics Ltd (Two-page ad)

Full issue on archive.org

Alright, so, turn the page! This Datel Electronics ad is almost as dazzling as a full-screen colour clash.

Top of the page, there's this "Special Value Pack" - looks like a couple of Quickshot joysticks bundled with a RAM Turbo interface, and to make it even more irresistable, they're chucking in a copy of Super Sprint! The text reckons it's the best joystick interface ever, which is fighting talk, if you ask me.

Below those joytastic beauties, we have the "OCP Micro Managers" – some kind of business software on Microdrive. There is an Address Manager, Finance Manager and Stock manager, all for £14.99

On the right, we have the "OCP Master Toolkits". It contains a Master toolkit, Editor Assambler and Machine code tester, again all for £14.99

Further down, more interfaces are available, and finally, at the bottom, some contraption called "Ramprint". Seems like a printer interface with a word processor stuffed in, so you can type away without even needing to load a tape. Crikey.
