It's one of the more chill recordings. Maybe Webster got him to slow down a bit hehe..

I was lucky and got it at a more reasonable price when it was first released.

Do you know The Paris Concert at Salle Pleyel 1978 with Joe Pass and NHØP. Absolutely amazing! Very different vibe, but in my opinion one of their best recordings.

Always reminds me of Sprite and cheesepuffs for some reason. Did you see they're releasing a 35 year anniversary edition of Sailing the Seas of Cheese with cheese-like liquid somehow encapsulated in the record?

Awesome record! Got to see them live a couple of years ago. Bashing Ryanair because of a massive delay, playing on 3 hours of sleep, DOMi using a camping toilet as a piano stool and still absolutely stunning performance!

I had never heard them until a friend turned me on to that live album they did with a metro symphony. truly cool stuff, esp what they pulled off in a live setting

With the latest album I have a quite similar experience as you have. Feels like they’re showing off their technicall skills but forgot to make it aesthetically pleasing to listen to.

They kind of gave that away with the Rick Beato interview. When they wrote this album they primarily focused on notating and only started actually playing the music when it was time to record the album.

Sound quality seems to be related to the binaural microphone they used to record the album. Again: conceptually interesting but not especially nice to listen to.

Still love them though! Second album is often just over the top experimenting with a lot of breakthrough artists.

I have the same feelings for the new Raye album. Sheer fucking hubris 😁
