The N.Y.C Groceries survey will help inform the initiative’s efforts to deliver affordable, quality groceries and strengthen local food access.

Lieber said that the $800 million climate resiliency project has begun with the awarding of a contract for the design of an estimated $270 million project to protect the Hudson Line from Spuyten Duyvil in the Bronx to Hastings-on-Hudson. He said that segment of track has experienced repeated impacts from storms. He said that assets that are in poor condition such as culverts and retaining walls will be repaired and expanded along with shoreline structure rehabilitation and implementing flood protection measures.

IMO, this all seems like regular maintenance items and not really "climate" related. With that said, love to see the investment

Contract Four is the largest in the Second Avenue Subway Phase 2 project and includes construction of station infrastructure, tracks, and signals for the subway expansion, MTA officials said. Work on Contract Four will begin in 2027.

On average, vehicles were traveling 14.5 mph over the posted speed limits in those work zones, according to the MTA. The agency said that in some cases, drivers were recorded going as fast as 111 mph in a 45 mph work zone and 109 mph in a 35 mph work zone.

The Portal North Bridge is a new modern two-track, high-level, fixed-span bridge that will improve service and capacity along this section of the Northeast Corridor. The new Portal North Bridge rises 50 feet over the Hackensack River, doubling the height clearance and allows marine traffic to pass underneath without interrupting rail traffic.

Mingus Dynasty was the first band Sue Mingus organized after Charles Mingus’ death in 1979, collaborating with his own sidemen to honor his life and work. Although Mingus was an iconic and trailblazing bassist, he always said he was first and foremost a composer, and he left behind over 300 compositions that deserved to be played. So, a band carrying on his music became a natural, if unanticipated, mission. Today, four decades later, the powerful legacy of Mingus Music ignites bandstands as new generations of musicians express their individual voices and musical personalities, and celebrate and explore this rich and varied musical legacy.

When he asked one student how they had gotten every question right the night before but failed the next day, he said the teenager responded, “ChatGPT.”

The $5.5 billion project, still pending environmental reviews and other approvals, includes building 18 new stations along a former freight line between the two boroughs and converting the tracks into a mostly above-ground light-rail system.

Weird how we can build data centers quickly and without approval.

After a pause for the heat of August, Bicycle Sundays are back! See you out there this Sunday 9/13 10a-2pm

The block was removed from the 2023 redesign by former Mayor Eric Adams’ administration, reportedly at the behest of a local real estate developer. The firm got the ear of Adams’ former chief adviser Ingrid Lewis-Martin, who had been indicted for allegedly being involved in a pay-to-play scheme to kill a similar bike lane project along Greenpoint’s McGuinness Boulevard.

"pay-to-play scheme to kill a similar bike lane project" -- stay frosty everyone

Seven of the 10 construction contracts for the Gateway Program are complete or in progress. That includes the completed Tonnelle Avenue Bridge Project in North Bergen and early stages of new track layout and tunnel boring across North Jersey. The new tunnel is set to open in 2035 and the current one is set to be redone by 2038.

Developed by nonprofit organization Comunilife, the newly constructed 10-story building includes 83 affordable apartments for older adults, including 50 supportive homes for New York seniors that were experiencing homelessness.

Indian Point already possesses something extraordinarily valuable that cannot simply be recreated overnight: an established high-capacity connection to the electric grid in the heart of the Lower Hudson Valley.

For decades, the site delivered approximately 2,000 megawatts into one of the most energy-intensive regions in the country. The transmission corridors, substations, interconnections and other infrastructure necessary to move enormous amounts of electricity are already there.

Meanwhile, New York is spending billions of dollars on new transmission projects to move electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed in Westchester and New York City. Building major transmission infrastructure is extraordinarily expensive and can take years of planning, permitting and construction.

Before spending billions more building elsewhere, shouldn't we determine what can safely and economically be accomplished with the infrastructure we already have?

The argument appears to be even without a PWR at Indian Point, it's conceivable the connection to the grid is still a valuable piece of infrastructure that could be used to tie in another type of generation.

Giants are 2.5 to 3-point underdogs, with the over/under total set around 48.5 points.

• Dallas has a new defensive coordinator
• Malik Nabers status for week 1 is unknown
• New to big-blue veteran coach

What do we think? Can Harbaugh's Giants outmaneuver a defense that's still learning its own playbook?

Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said, “Every child deserves access to a strong educational foundation, and every parent deserves the peace of mind that comes with knowing their child is in a high-quality learning environment. By expanding these opportunities, we are helping our youngest learners build the skills they need to succeed, while providing working families with meaningful support to balance the demands of raising a family and working towards a solid future. This investment in universal Pre-K is a major step forward for children and families across Westchester, and I thank Governor Hochul for her leadership on this.”

Village of Tuckahoe Mayor Cara Kronen said, "Governor Hochul’s investment in universal pre-K will make a meaningful difference for families in the Village of Tuckahoe and across New York State. Expanding pre-K will help ensure that all of our youngest learners, regardless of their families’ income or circumstances, have access to high-quality, nurturing early childhood education while providing essential support to working families"

With all the crazy shit going on nowadays, I love that we still have the wisdom to spend money on children and families.

NEW YORK (AP) — An under-construction Manhattan high-rise at risk of collapse was stabilized late Tuesday and some evacuations of nearby buildings were lifted.

“We’ve been monitoring the building for many hours and have not seen any movement,” Ahmed Tigani, commissioner of the New York City Department of Buildings, said during a news conference Tuesday.

By nighttime, residents were allowed back into several of the seven buildings that were evacuated as a precaution. [...]
