The changelog (muuted.com/changelog) gets everything same-day, but here is the week in one place:
- Video channel headers are tidier. Each header shows the channel name and story count on one line, and a header never shows a count with no cards under it.
- Videos and podcasts no longer clear by default. Clearing still works in the main feed and Social. Under Clearing in Feed Settings, two new toggles, Apply to videos and Apply to podcasts, turn it on for those lanes.
- Your scroll distance now follows your account. It keeps counting across browsers and devices instead of resetting, and the feed marks milestones with a card.
- "New in Muuted" cards read like feed cards. Each one now gives a short plain explanation and a way to open the feature, instead of raw changelog text.
- Fixed: the Subscriber? button showed on free blogs. It now appears only when a source really has member-only previews in its feed.
- Fixed: the feed could jump ahead an article or two as you scrolled. Your place now stays put while you scroll.
- Fixed: on phones, a section header could show a count with no cards under it. The cards are now there, or the header does not appear.
- Fixed: guided setup could not scroll on iPhone and offered Build my feed twice. Setup now opens on its first step and every screen scrolls.
- New readers start with a smaller, simpler app. Basic features come first and the rest arrive gradually through tip cards. Advanced is one tap away for anyone who wants everything right away.
- Adding a source suggests the obvious category. Adding Ars Technica now leads with Tech, creating it if you do not have it yet, and a category created this way shows up in every category list.
- Search corrects typos. Searching "wresling" shows results for wrestling and tells you so, with a link to search your original spelling. The box also shows a spinner while it works, and "pairs well" suggestions stay on topic.
- Weather is one forecast card. Adding a ZIP code now gives you a single forecast card instead of a section of six plain cards.
- Fantasy: adding a league is clearer. Your new league appears at the top of the screen, a note says you can edit leagues in settings, and in the sidebar widget you can rename a league and change which team is yours in place.
- Feed groups can be created and deleted in place. No more hunting through settings to make or remove a group.
- Fixed: the ZIP box showed the same ZIP ten times. Browser autofill no longer fills a dropdown with duplicates.
- Fixed: new accounts lost stories they had scrolled past. Nothing is cleared for a new account unless you turn Clearing on.
- Setup starts with search. The guided setup now opens on one full screen: type what you read, add it, done.
- A calmer first screen for new accounts. The page a new account lands on is shorter, with a search box and two clear ways to start.
- Fantasy: a wrong ESPN league ID lets you try again. Muuted asks you to confirm the ID, and explains that a private league is the usual reason ESPN will not share it, before offering the screenshot route.
- Tap a muted word again to unmute it. In Story options, tapping a word chip a second time removes it from your mute list.
- The mute menu says what it does. In the Hidden sheet for a category, the Edit button is now labeled Add rule.
- The first tip card has a better label. It no longer says "How it works" and now tells a new reader what it is about.
- Game cards have a new look. A game story shows the game's own art, with its Steam and Metacritic ratings on one line.
- Starter packs no longer include paywalled sources. The packs were audited, and weaker picks were swapped for the best source in each topic.
- Tips wait for your first category. A new reader's first tip card now appears after the first category section instead of sitting at the top of a fresh feed, and the menu hint on phones is gentler.
- Follow Lemmy communities on servers that block feed readers. Muuted now serves a working feed for them.
- Lanes in Feed Settings are a tile grid. Tap a tile to turn a lane on or off. The Reorder list opens only when you need it.
- Serious Eats cards look like real cards. They now have an image and a description instead of a bare headline.
- A category header has an X to dismiss every story in it. It asks first, and the toast has an Undo.
- Fixed: the fantasy player summary could not scroll on iPhone. The related stories below the player panel are reachable again.
- Milestone cards can be shared. A Share button on the card sends your number through your share sheet, or copies it with a short link. Milestones now fire on round numbers, and the number you see is the number you share.
- The Fantasy lane is easier to navigate. It has tabs, a Matchup view, and league rows that look and act tappable.
- Returning visitors see sign-in first. If you are signed out and come back to Muuted, a compact sign-in card sits above the fold on your phone.
- Fixed: a source could open blank. Opening a source from Jump to now shows its stories, plus a note for any older than your time window, instead of a header with nothing under it.
- Fixed: a game story matched the wrong game. A story about an unreleased sequel no longer falls back to an older game with similar words in its name.
- Fantasy: every league gets its own page. It has Matchup, My team, Waivers, League and Scores. The Fantasy lane also gains My teams with live scores, a game-week strip, players in the news, and podcasts.
- Fantasy: a new Add your roster screen. Link ESPN or Sleeper directly, or paste a roster from Yahoo, NFL or CBS, with how-to links for each. Setup also offers fantasy source packs if you follow none.
- Setup shows starter packs as a tile grid. Each tile lists its sources and expands in place, so the packs are easy to see and hard to skip.
- Searching a pack's topic shows its best sources first. Search "fantasy football" and the curated picks lead the list.
- Add-a-source rows say they have a preview. A Preview link under each result opens its latest posts under a shorter header.
- Fixed: Open my feed was dead for about 30 seconds on iPad. It happened after going back to setup from the fantasy page. The button now works at once.
- The search page has a new look. A search row, tabs for In your feed, Add sources and Muted, filters, bordered result cards and a latest-posts preview.
- Fantasy widget shows team names. For each league you see your team and your opponent, with records, projected and current scores, and quick chips for ahead or behind and questionable players.
- Blocked publishers can be followed through Bluesky. When a big publisher blocks readers or has no working feed, search offers its official Bluesky account, such as Reuters (via Bluesky).
- The subreddit finder reaches beyond Lemmy. It now suggests forums, Hacker News, Tildes groups and StockTwits symbols as new homes for a subreddit's crowd.
- Search never spins forever. You get results or a clear message, and Escape closes the search overlay even after you press Enter.
- Fixed: some pages stayed light in dark mode. Hidden and muted story headlines are readable again, and the Mute Packs page follows the dark theme.
- Fixed: Pixelfed accounts were labelled Mastodon. They now show as Pixelfed when added by link or handle.
- Fixed: the fantasy player panel showed dashes. Last year's points and roster percentage now show the real numbers.
- Swipe in from the left edge to open the menu. On phones, swiping from the left edge opens the side rail, and swiping back closes it.
- The sign-in wait screen is alive. While you wait for your email or code, the Muuted tornado animates.
- Search is cleaner. It never offers a feed Muuted knows is dead or blocked, merges the same feed listed under two web addresses, and no longer shows foreign-language editions of a brand, like BBC Chinese, in English searches.
- Fantasy page leads with your team. Your team name is at the top, and the matchup in the header always belongs to the same league. The widget is also more compact, with every detail kept.
- Your stats bar setting follows your account. Turn it on once and it shows on every device.
- Junk filters start off for new accounts. After a few scrolls, a card shows a real story they would have caught and offers to turn them on.
- Fixed: pasting a fantasy roster dropped the defense and kicker. The import now asks you to paste from the Matchup page so your opponent comes along too.
- Fixed: swiping the Summary sheet away opened the left menu and jumped the feed to the top. The sheet now closes without moving the feed.
- Story options has a simpler layout. The mute and more sheet is rebuilt and far less busy.
- Fixed: the feedback sheet was awkward with a screenshot. The dialog no longer vanishes when you tick Include a screenshot, the preview shows the screenshot, and the feed no longer scrolls behind the popup.
- Fixed: edge swipes for the menu and widgets went back a page or opened mute and more. They now open the menu and the widgets bar.
- Fixed: search for a source in setup left the box under the keyboard. It now moves up so you can see what you type.
- New readers see tips before milestones. Milestone cards now wait a few scrolls so the getting-started tips come first.
- Phone setup shows the starter packs. New readers on a phone now see a choice between searching and browsing packs, so search is no longer the only option.
- Swiping a card right opens Story options, and swiping left dismisses it. Left used to open the options too.
- Category headers stay on one row on phones. The muted chip is now a mute icon with a number.
- The feedback bubble stays off card controls. It no longer covers the mute button on a card or the Save button on the Saved tab.
- The Fantasy lane shows your team names. League rows lead with your team, so two leagues are easy to tell apart.
- Fixed: Add a league froze for several seconds on iPhone. Tapping the ESPN league field and the setup search box no longer hangs the screen.
- Fixed: the landing page was wider than the screen in Chrome on iPhone. It no longer scrolls sideways.
- Fixed: opening Send feedback scrolled the feed to the top behind the dialog. Your place is kept.
- Fixed: the little i buttons on Feed Rules did nothing on phones. Tapping one now shows the explanation under the card.
- Feed Rules has one way back to your feed. The duplicate Back buttons are gone and the floating Feed pill stays.
- Hidden stories read more clearly. The row says Mute another word instead of a cut-off label, and word and topic catches can now be set to Always show their source.
- Fixed: changing the time window looked like nothing happened. The stats card at the top now updates with the new window.
- Fixed: the upcoming-game scoreboard card was broken on phones. The kickoff time no longer sits on top of the teams and records no longer stack a character at a time.
- Fixed: truncated labels across the app on phones. Fantasy tabs and league names, search chips, the stats bar and welcome-back strip, and the Lemmy finder page now fit at phone widths.
- Swipe in from the right edge to open widgets. On phones, a swipe from the right edge opens the widgets sidebar and never fights vertical scrolling.
- Feed Rules closes with a swipe. Pull down from the top or swipe left, like other sheets.
- Fantasy tells you when you follow no fantasy sources. It explains that the lane works better with them and offers a one-tap way to add them from the pack.
- The fantasy game-week strip does something. Tapping a day, like Inactives, now takes you to that day's stories.
- Fixed: the feed jumped back about three stories near a tip card. It no longer hops up while you scroll.
- Fixed: Discover and Feed Rules showed different counts. Both now read the same numbers.
- Fixed: the phone froze for up to 18 seconds on a first feed load. The first load now stays responsive.
- Fixed: a finished game was labelled Next on My Team. The label now matches the game state.
- Top 5 per category. In By category view, each category can show its five most covered stories, ranked by how many of your sources ran them, with a short reason line. The Highlights block mirrors the Top stories look in a smaller version.
- Search has a Small web section. Newsletters and indie blogs get their own filter and a place near the top, instead of being buried under the biggest publishers.
- Short sections can load older stories. A section ends with Show N older when your time window is hiding some.
- Hidden stories look like feed cards. You see the headline, source and summary, so you can judge a hide rule without tapping through.
- Category headers are rebuilt for phones. The name and count lead, the controls sit in one even row, and the muted count is back on every header.
- Fixed: the feed could go empty after adding sources. You now always see stories or a visible rebuild, never a false "You're up to date".
- Fixed: recipe cards were crushed on phones. Prep, cook, serves and calories read cleanly, and total time is right.
- Fixed: Ask HN stories had no Summary and Comments tabs. Any Hacker News story with comments now shows them.
- Feed Settings has a search button. Tap the magnifier in the top bar, type, and jump straight to any setting.
- The search page is back to the approved design. Phone results fit properly again, with tabs, chips and cards no longer truncated.
- Nonsense searches now say there is nothing. A made-up word returns the honest empty state instead of unrelated sites labelled as a match.
- Moving your Reddit crowd is easier. On the Reddit RSS page you can paste a whole list of subreddits and get the best Lemmy match for each. A quiet community is labelled with when it last posted, with active alternatives suggested.
- Following from the finder takes fewer steps. Follow in Muuted adds the source and opens your feed, and the Move button no longer opens a category list you cannot scroll or close.
- The nav bar comes back sooner. Scrolling up shows it again after a short pull instead of three stories.
- Fixed: the mute pop-up could not select some words. Words like El Nino and UN can be tapped, and the faint grey text on the sheet is darker.
- Fixed: the second Share tap left a grey screen. The share sheet now opens normally every time.
- Feed Rules Sources has the multi search. It replaces the add-a-site card with the same search box, a Search button, an i button and a link to Discover for what you can search.
- Text size shows you it worked. In Feed Settings, tapping A- or A+ shows the current size, such as 110%, with a sample line that changes as you tap.
- Fixed: the Jump to where you left off button floated over Feed Settings. It now shows only on the feed.
- Fixed: the League tab on a Sleeper league showed an error. It no longer fails with an error.
- The main feed shows stories two across on wide screens. On screens 1500 pixels wide or more, the Top stories block and the section lists use two columns with the side rail kept on the right; phones, iPads and narrower windows look the same as before.
- Small text and buttons in tips, tours and the guide bar are easier to read and tap. Text is no longer tiny, and every button has a comfortable tap area without changing the layout.
- Chips and buttons across the app are easier to tap and scale with your text size. Every tappable one is now a thumb-sized target, and the rounded look is kept.
- Full summaries for VIP are about a third shorter. They top out at 320 words, and longer pieces are split into short paragraphs. Free and Pro summaries are unchanged.
- The Sources search results have a small header row. It reads "Source" on the left and "Category" on the right, and lines up with the rows below on phone and desktop, in light and dark.
- The add-word button on each list says which list it is for. It reads "Add word to list" followed by the list's name.
- With the Reader on, tapping a story's headline opens the Reader. The bottom link now reads "Read on" followed by the site name and still opens the article, and a new Reader button next to it opens the Reader.
- Free readers past getting-started see the Feed groups tip first. The Fuller sidebar tip comes next, then the normal tips. Pro readers see no change.
- Fixed: tapping the filter box on a large feed made the app stall for seconds. The keyboard now appears right away and typing stays smooth.
- Fixed: tapping a source in Jump to did nothing while the feed was in category view. It now takes you to that source's stories and closes the menu.
- Fixed: the top bar of the story sheet could slip out of view. The Summary and Comments tabs and the close button now stay on screen, even while you type.
- Fixed: the pinned view stayed on after you switched tabs. It now clears when you change tabs.
- Fixed: the Issues page was laid out badly on narrow screens. The reasons and the Pick a category button now fit properly on small screens.
- Fixed: the blinking cursor in the category picker's search box. It now shows up correctly.
- Fixed: tapping Report it could freeze a huge feed. The sheet now opens at once. If the page is too complex for a screenshot, the report still sends and you see a short note instead of a freeze.
- Fixed: tapping a source or category title no longer changes what is shown. Collapse and Expand stay in the menu on each heading, and they work again.
- Fixed: tapping a category in Jump to now ends on that category's stories. The empty-state card only appears for a category that really has nothing.
- Searching "hacker news" puts the Hacker News front page first. Comments-only feeds rank after the regular ones and are labelled "(comments only)".
- New accounts start with a calmer feed. Stories from the last 24 hours, Top Stories on with up to three stories, and no sales pitches until the account is a day old.
- Fixed: the ? button sits on the same row as the Feed Rules title. It is easy to tap on phone and desktop, in light and dark.
- Fixed: the feedback button shows once, in the usual bottom-right place, on every signed-in page. It opens the feedback sheet and sends.
- Fixed: the Share and action buttons in the story preview scale with your text size.
- The fantasy page loads faster. Opening it now makes one round of ESPN requests instead of two.
- Fixed: shared mute packs can no longer carry a source address that contains a login or key. Installing a pack tells you if one private source was skipped.
- "More coverage" cards in an opened Top story look like normal feed cards. Same source line with its icon, same headline size, and the usual action bar with Summary.
- The feed opens faster for big feeds. The first sections load straight away and the rest load as you scroll toward them, tap a section chip, tap Show more, or use Jump to where you left off.
- Fixed: a feed saved in Sources view could kill the tab on a phone. It now loads a screen at a time, the same way Categories does.
- Minimal layout is cleaner. One compact card per story with the headline, source and age, and a Summary button, with nothing else in the way.
- Fixed: tapping a team in Your leagues only selects it. The details below switch to that team, and an "Open matchup" button opens the matchup.
- Back and Escape close Feed Settings, search, the side menu and the mute popup. One press, and you stay on the feed with the app still open.
- Text size now applies everywhere, up to 150%. Layout, Text size and Clear-as-I-read follow your account across devices.
- A first-time visitor on the sign-in page sees what happens next. The page says "New here? Your first sign-in creates your free account."
- Pasting a site address finds its feed more reliably. Feeds are found whichever way the site lists them, real feeds are preferred over comments feeds, a YouTube playlist link resolves to that playlist, and "r/python" gets the Reddit message.
- Fixed: a plan change from Stripe shows on your next page load. Removing a source also clears its mute, group and pin, so adding it back shows stories.
- Fixed: the empty-feed message no longer appears when stories are visible.
- Fixed: on desktop in Minimal, the left rail and top nav behave exactly as in Cards. Jump to no longer covers cards.
- Fixed: the menu drawer no longer floats over an open settings panel on phones. Closing the panel brings the menu back as before.
- Fixed: the Sources bar inside Feed Rules sits at the bottom of the panel instead of floating over the page.
- Fixed: Top Stories and Highlights flow in columns on wide screens. An opened card grows in its own column and the other column has no blank gap.
- Fixed: long league names in the Fantasy card header fit on one line with an ellipsis.
- Fixed: every matchup player row shows all three lines, and both sides of a matchup are the same height. Secondary text on the matchup page is easier to read in light and dark.
More next week. Report anything weird — it gets a real ticket.
