Hello everyone.

I just noticed I had some issues downloading dictionaries for my unexpected keyboard. So I did some quick checks and noticed the following:

My (f-droid) installed version is 1.32.1.

The Aurora/Play Store version is at 2.0.4.

Did the dev just stopped the process to have it in f-droid or is it another f-droid issue? Is there another repo (at least not on the github page)?

Physical keyboard layouts were optimized for typing with ten fingers. Most virtual keyboards just copy the look of those physical layouts — even though the writing experience is completely different, since on a screen we're really only using one or two thumbs. On top of that, most of these keyboards focus on how the keyboard looks, and pay far less attention to how it sounds and feels.

With Honeyboard, I wanted to explore what it means to redesign a keyboard specifically for screens, and build the best possible writing experience around that. I focused on the essential core features that define what a virtual keyboard actually is:

  • Write in your native script. Honeyboard ships with 122 languages and 295 layouts.
  • A coherent experience for your senses. Organizational structure, visual, haptic, and auditory feedback all work together to make typing genuinely feel satisfying.
  • Adapts to any device. Phone, foldable, or tablet — it looks and works perfectly on all of them, so it feels like a native part of your system.
  • Fully local. It runs entirely on-device, with no special permissions required.
  • Public domain. The code is contributed to the public domain, with a modular, clear structure, thorough tests, and documentation — so it's easy to contribute to or adapt yourself.

This isn't just another keyboard. It's a vision of what digital typing could look like in the future — and it already works today.

There's still some polishing and optimization to do, especially on the sound design, the layout sources, and the layouting algorithm, but none of that gets in the way of everyday use.

I'd love to hear what you think.

Hey guys,

In the pursuit of getting rid of all the google/samsung crap on my phone possible, I decided to finally change my keyboard. I went through a few which just didn't work at all for me and landed on Heliboard and Sayboard for voice.

Now, I am trying to get used to it, but there are some really terrible glitches that almost make me want to go back to the samsung keyboard..maybe someone else has had these issues and can assist?

  1. I cannot paste images with heliboard. It just pastes a cryptic long line of code if i try. that means i have to download every image I share. not feasible

  2. holding backspace is painfully slow to delete a sentence letter by letter. the samsung keyboard had a great feature if you hold backspace for more than a second it deletes full words. super nice EDIT: I found out i can hold backspace and swipe left for this feature, cool.

  3. sayboard: for some reason, it will record my message and send it, but it will keep the same message in the message field. so every time i use it, i have to hold backspace down to delete (letter by letter) the entire previous message I sent. EDIT: I found this only does this in signal. when i send the message, it sends it, but does not clear the new message field.

  4. lastly, and maybe this is just me, but i SUCK at typing now with heliboard. I have to go way slower or i completely misspell words or end up with weird symbols and numbers. I could go way faster on the samsung keyboard. I'm not sure why this is, it tends to miss the spacebar input a lot too. The feel is just off.

I'd really like to solve these issues because heliboard does have some other awesome features I like, and i'd like to share it with others trying to get away from samsung, but in it's current state I can't recommend it for a normal user that just wants it to work.

for reference, this is a POS S23 (hate this phone, can't wait to get another one).

A few years ago Solder Party started selling tiny USB keyboards made by combining an actual BlackBerry keyboard (ripped from an old device) with a custom PCB and USB-C connector. But since BlackBerry is out of business, eventually it’s going to get harder to find devices to cannibalize for their keyboards.

So Solder Party has now introduced two brand new products. The KeebDeck Keyboard is a tiny thumb keyboard with 69 silicone keys arranged in an orthogonal layout, while the KeebDeck Basic is the first fully functional input device built around that keyboard. They’re available for purchase for around $4 and $8, respectively – although shipping to the US currently drives the price way up. But you can also find everything you need to make your own at Solder Party’s GitHub page.
