When she woke up in the middle of the night last Thursday, Jasmine Ault went to check her phone like she usually would.

But she didn’t expect to see a notification telling her that her Instagram and Facebook account had been permanently disabled by Meta.

It was only the start of an odyssey of frustration and anxiety spanning multiple days as Ault struggled to get to the bottom of how 20 years of personal data and professional contacts had been taken from her overnight — all while being stonewalled by AI customer service with no option to reach a human being, even after paying extra.

“It feels like I've lost everything in a metaphorical fire with my digital albums and my digital memories,” Ault, who lives in Toronto, told CBC News. “And who's going to protect those if I can only speak to AI?”

🐍 Not shocked by #Meta or the kind of people they put in charge of their “digital experiences for kids”¹.

Exactly the kind of person to entrust with social media #ageverification (calls, live videos, photographs etc.).

I mean they already love scanning messages for child sexual abuse material via #ChatControl².

☑️ Entrust children's data to the people literally caught exploiting them, all under the banner of protecting kids?

Meta has been up to no good for a while - always?

Is $1.4 trillion a reasonable amount for these cases? Who knows.

Is it reasonable compensation for all the evil they’ve done? I’d argue yes.

It’s essentially their entire market capitalization as a penalty.

Screenshot from Reddit r/DeMeta post: Meta's Employee Retention Strategy As a former employee, I can share that Meta uses a "3-T" system to retain their talented and passionate employees: Traumatize, Threaten, & Terminate. Traumatize: through long work hours, Al replacement, and eroding the moral fabric of society Threaten: through surveillance, mass layoffs, and fake ass performance reviews Terminate: in this stage, the employee is dropped through a trap door in the floor, where they are fed to the secret AL Hivemind God that lives down there. He is a hungry guy! Personally, I'm thankful that my trap door glitched out and I managed to escape. I'l be chilling in Iceland next month. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk
