Nature rarely waits for permission. When surfaces appear and water flow softens, small organisms arrive first. They attach, settle, and grow. Soon after, larger species follow.

Fish begin using the new spaces for shelter. Shellfish take hold. Over time, sediments stabilize and water quality improves. What was once silent starts to move again, forming early layers of life where none existed before.

This could be a first step towards a demilitarized Black Sea. Post-Putin Russia could be forced into it, bit Turkey would be difficult to persuade for the idea.

A civilian cargo ship has sunk and its crew is missing after being attacked by drones in the Black Sea, Bulgarian officials say.

A second vessel - carrying grain - was also hit within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said. Its 18 crew were rescued.

Radev did not say who was behind the attacks, which come as Russia intensifies strikes in the Black Sea, particularly the eastern side, as part of its war against Ukraine.

Romania's energy strategy sets a target of 3 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2035. The government considers offshore wind an opportunity to diversify the electricity mix and strengthen energy security.

The World Bank's Offshore Wind Roadmap for Romania estimates the Black Sea has significant wind resources, with average speeds exceeding 7.5 metres per second and an overall technical potential of about 76 GW. Of this potential, approximately 22 GW could be developed using fixed foundations and 54 GW using floating technology.

The 3 GW target represents a moderate development scenario. An accelerated scenario could result in as much as 7 GW of offshore wind capacity, according to the ministry's supporting documents.

“We do not want the war to be carried into the Black Sea,” he said. “The targeting of ports, tankers and fishing boats in Black Sea and putting civilians' lives at risk cannot be justified.”

Speaking about the importance of navigation in the Black Sea, Fidan said: "Freedom of navigation and commercial security in the Black Sea are of vital importance. I discussed this with the Russian side during my visit to Moscow and also with my esteemed counterpart here. I will raise the issue again in the meetings I will hold throughout the day today. This is an important issue for us and for all Black Sea countries."

Fidan recalled that the UN had proposed that, while the war continues elsewhere, the parties remain committed to guarantees on energy security and freedom of navigation in the Black Sea to safeguard global grain security.

Fidan stressed that Türkiye's primary objective is to end the war, adding: "If that is not possible, then in several critical areas important for Ukraine, Russia and all countries, a war moratorium could be declared and those targets could be spared.”

"What are they? Black Sea security and energy security. Our alternative proposals on these issues remain on the table for the parties' consideration. The Ukrainian side shares a serious common understanding with us on this matter," he said.

"The Black Sea ecosystem is on the verge of collapse. Constant deadly military activity – mine explosions, bombing, missile launches and the use of powerful sonar systems, as well as enormous volumes of chemical pollutants, including the consequences of the Kakhovka disaster – is systematically destroying the sea's unique biodiversity," the park's scientists said.

They estimate that around 100,000 Black Sea cetaceans of three species have died in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

“The goal of the second stage of the research was to establish the boundaries of the port area to the late antique fortress of Erite, as well as to map important underwater elements – rocks, reefs and concentrations of movable cultural property,” the museum said.

The fortress of Erite itself is marked on the famous ancient map Tabula Peutingeriana. According to the data in it, along the Black Sea coast within the province of Moesia Inferior, there were road stations, including Odessos (Varna), Erite (at the mouth of the Kamchia River) and Templum Jovis (probably near the present-day city of Obzor). All three were important port centres, located directly on the seashore or at the mouth of rivers – that is, safe harbours.

Among the earliest finds are three stone anchors with one hole, which can be dated to the beginning of the 1st millennium BCE at the earliest.

The turquoise color is likely caused by coccolithophores, a type of phytoplankton covered with calcium carbonate plates that can give surface waters a milky blue appearance. These types of phytoplankton tend to dominate in late spring and early summer. Other times of the year, diatoms—a type of microscopic algae with silica shells—can become more prevalent, and they tend to darken the water rather than brighten it.

Though coccolithophores are microscopic, they become so abundant during a bloom that they are visible from space. This makes remote sensing a useful tool for researchers studying bloom dynamics in regions where direct sampling is limited. Beyond their visibility, these blooms also contribute to the ocean's carbon cycle. When they die, some of the carbon they have taken up sinks to the seafloor, where it can remain stored for long periods.

The article is full of nonsense, but also gives some details:

The ambassador noted that the new system will provide a capacity of 500 terabits per second—an impressive figure that is 25 times greater than the current capacity in the region.

Geopolitical tensions are creating problems we have not encountered before. However, the route through Iraq and Turkey to the Black Sea is now technically and commercially viable, making the Black Sea an extremely important digital corridor," he explained.

The cable will connect Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, and Ukraine, but the ambitions do not stop there.

The company is currently involved in the construction of a similar system in the Caspian Sea, which will connect Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, creating a new digital route between Central Europe and Central Asia, bypassing risk areas.

This is about a ship that arrived at the port of Brindisi flying the flag of a small island state. It was carrying around 33,000 tonnes of metal raw materials. The ship came from Russian territorial waters in the Black Sea, which immediately attracted the attention of the customs services.

She added that nowadays it is becoming increasingly difficult for a country like Moldova to survive and exist as a democracy and a sovereign state.

"As President of the Republic of Moldova, I understand that there is no majority in favor of unification with Romania, but there is a majority that supports accession to the EU, and we are acting in that direction. This is a much more realistic goal and helps us protect our sovereignty,” Sandu explained.

Drones attacked three oil tankers operated by Greek companies in the Black Sea. The ships were heading to load oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal off the coast of Russia.

Other sources report also a fourth tanker being struck.

It is not yet known who is responsible for the drone attacks.
