Is that not the same post

One of the first enshittifiers to SEO their way to the top to then not allow you to see the results without an account
That is genuinely one of the biggest things that irks me about the platform. It even makes it hard for results to show up in fucking Google now (I presume; not that Google isn’t crap now too)
Pinterest has been shit for a decade. I think browser plugins to exclude it from image searches have also been around at least that long. One of the first enshittifiers to SEO their way to the top to then not allow you to see the results without an account
Again, I’m not taking stones from the Grand Canyon (what does that have anything to do with any of this anyway?) I’m talking about posting 1 AI image to Lemmy. Nothing more. Never said I was special, not trying to. Just pointing out that I posted 1 AI image, and that those arguing against me doing so by saying ‘if EVERYONE did that here…’ when they know full well everyone here is not going to do that, your argument is nothing and don’t hinge your argument on a fantasy scenario you know damn well isn’t going to happen. That is all. Thank you for reading.
This is exactly why it's illegal to take even a rock from the Grand Canyon (or other national parks). You're not special. Take the L and move on.
And as I said, I, and only I, have posted 1 image, how the hell do you translate that into ‘if everyone else is gonna do the same’? They’re never going to do that, so it’s irrelevant.
Even if by some magic that your scenario of the entire Lemmy community decide to get together and post 1 AI image did come to fruition (absurd suggestion) Lemmy doesn’t run on the same algorithm as Pinterest. It’s 2 different systems. You’re assuming that should people do that, it would have the same effect on two completely different social media platforms that don’t run the same algorithm.
I understand the point you’re making, but your point is nonsense because everyone on Lemmy would never come together and do that. Your point also depends on your comparison between Pinterest and Lemmy, but what you're missing is that you’re overlooking 3 things:
-
they run on different algorithms. Pinterest has an AI based algorithm that is now trained to purposely churn up more AI content when you view AI content. Lemmy is not an AI algorithm, doesn’t do that, doesn’t prioritise AI content at all, it’s just first-post-first-see (think active, new, etc.) they run on fundamentally different systems.
-
their interfaces are different. When you click on a pin on Pinterest, it loads up similar (AI for AI clicks) images that you can scroll through endlessly, thereby giving AI content more views. When you click on a Lemmy post, it’s literally just that, no links to other AI content.
But all that aside, the notion of a million Lemmy users each posting 1 AI image is a completely fictitious scenario because…
- the users are completely different. Pinterest has 64 million users who don’t mind AI. Lemmy doesn’t even have 1 million, and of its users, most of them don’t like AI and wouldn’t even post 1. Yeah, you might get the handful who like or tolerate AI who post a few images, but the simple fact is, your point about a everyone on lemmy making AI posts is completely fictitious and would never happen so is completely irrelevant-
And as others have already pointed out, you're missing the point. If EVERYONE on lemmy just posted 1 AI image you'd end up with the same shit you have on Pinterest.
Again, I posted 1 image, not multiple ones. I don’t know how you can get that I’m not upset with Pinterest from that. You’re misinterpreting what I’m trying to say if you think I like Pinterest
Sounds to me like you aren't too broken up about Pinterest then and you're wanting lemmy to become more like it by posting that shit here too
I didn’t post in on Pinterest though. I posted it here. Once.
And to be clear: accounts on Pinterest don’t just post once — if they did, we would not be in this mess. They post multiple times though out the day. Thats how Pinterest has ended up in its mire, and it’s the point I was trying to make.
When 1 million people post "just 1 Ai slop image" that's how you get Pinterest.
Pfft. That all you got? Poor thing.
😂
Oh look, you used an emoji! The junk effort of conversations!
I’m not complaining about AI slop itself, but the sheer mass of it on the platform. Plus the use of AI in the algorithm. I don’t mind the use of AI, my point is I can’t stand how rampant it is there now. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear. Also I posted 1 AI image, that doesn’t even compare to 1 million.
Holy shit 😂
You are complaining about people posting AI slop after you posted AI slop the day before.
Your point being?
This you?
That’s optimistic for an AI model.
ETA: Also, hopefully, it taught ‘AI’ to end every sentence with a full stop.
Hopefully it made the AI learn the difference between "it’s" and "its"
So basically they’re admitting that they’re even breaking the copyright law? Man, there is just so much wrong with this. I knew Pinterest was bad, but I didn’t think it was that bad. Shame on Pinterest.
That’s because you’re looking at it through the wrong lens. I’m not really talking about as an artist. Back in the day, Pinterest was more used as a social media platform centred around images, for people to share pics of tier family, their day, what they found interesting etc. Rather like how YouTube was originally intended to be a dating social media site before it pivoted. I don’t know the original intent of what Pinterest was meant to be, but I remember that’s how Pinterest was used at the time.
Take this with a hefty dose of salt as I'm just a random passer-by, but for as long as I've known of its existence (and just for clarity's sake, I'm talking about long before genAI was a thing), Pinterest has been unusable. I've never known of artists uploading their own work and you thanked the three Graces if there was an artist name attached to an upload. Searching for anything on Pinterest was never successful for me.
I understand some artists used to go onto pinterest to find random inspiration from clothing et cetera, but that just feels like google with extra steps to me. Maybe I was just never the target audience.
