Can we please just skip the middle-man and start open sourcing everything instead of burning all the world's resources to achieve the same goal?

This has nothing to do with piracy. Rewind the clock 20 years and doom's source code release meant even more than AI code de-obfuscation. The art and assets are still copyrighted. The ability for people to port doom to everything under the sun has meant more sales of the game, not less.

If every gamedev in the world released their source code tomorrow, no one would lose out on any sales, but the public sure would benefit from ports and mods etc.

The only thing that might get lost is microtransaction locked cosmetic bullshit, which frankly needs to die anyway. But even that wouldn't get lost necessarily because of authoritative servers and terms of service.

That's not it at all. The internet used to be a multitude of small sites. A true bazaar made by individuals, visited by individuals in their web browsers.

Now it is all the 5 biggest platforms trapping users in their apps and doing their best to wall everything off.

I think they mean when not at an actual crossing and without ever even looking. I get it all the time, "phone zombies" stepping into the road right in front of me because my bicycle doesn't make as much noise as a car. The bell seems to do nothing to wake them from their stupor so I have avoided fixing my loud squeaky brakes on purpose.

Also though, do people really need to constantly stare at their phones while walking anywhere, let alone where there are 1 tonne metal things moving at speed with pilots who may or may not have seen the red light?

It can go too far in either direction. If you're writing a report you know no one will ever read it can help to ask why and push for an answer, but it isn't the driving instructor's job to explain why you should stop at the red light.

It's a single rack rather than it being a whole data center. The whole constellation of satellites is the data center.

Again, I'm not advocating for this as a good idea, just saying that cooling is not the reason it is a bad one.

I'm looking to get a something to plug in to my TV for streaming jellyfin and streaming games. Criteria:

    1. can play 1080p h264 from jellyfin without transcoding
    2. can stream 1080p 60hz games via steam link / moonlight
    3. low power consumption so it's not a big deal if I leave it on
    4. runs an open OS (raspian etc)
    5. wifi and bluetooth
    6. hdmi output
    7. less than ~150 AUD (100 USD)

Thanks in advance! Any tips around remote control and/or home assistant integration for it would also be welcome.
