I would probably use CoMaps (especially as they just started adding reviews) instead of OSMAnd, though they're both good. I've also been impressed by the beta of Murena Maps.

Read through the post and the comments. Most of the comments are people pointing this out for what it is - a sanctioned attempt by Proton (from someone who appears to be a personal friend of Yen) at changing the narrative. It doesn't change my mind at all, and actually hardens me to the idea of moving.

A genuine post by a lower-level employee below was more interesting, but the core of it is: Yen goes or we go.

I'm giving them a month to fire Yen and change direction or I'm out. I'm also looking for good recommendations of where to go - so far I'm looking at Tuta or Murena (my phone is already on /e/OS)

Maybe I'm being dumb, but why would I use this over Heroic? Is it meant to be a Heroic replacement or just the "official" client? Genuine question

This only makes sense if the large landlord conglomerate that likely owns them isn't happy to just leave them empty to keep the upward pressure on rents.

This is also why we'll continue to have problems unless we get state-owned construction companies - the landlord conglomerates that have the money to get new apartments built will never commission enough apartment blocks to actually drive down prices, instead trickling in supply to keep prices where they are, or higher (regardless of the incentives). These are the problems we face in Amsterdam, anyway.

To be fair to people in the US, this is because Bernie and all who followed have referred to themselves as DemSocs when they're SocDems. As someone who studied PolSci this has annoyed me since the beginning, but at this point it's too far gone to do anything about it.

Not sure why you're getting grief in the comments. I don't think this is for me but you've been transparent about the AI use and it seems like a cool project. Good luck with it!

  • Linux TV Options (lemmy.zip)

With the recent GN video I'd been wondering about turning an old mini PC from eBay into a little Linux TV box for streaming. I'd need access to Android apps (I guess through Waydroid).

After a brief look, it seems that the two options are some form of LibreElec system running Kodi or Arch running Plasma Big Screen. Any thoughts / advice? And if I went for Big Screen, does anyone know of any distros that ship with it or will I have to spin it up myself on Arch?

I've been searching for a while via Ecosia, Google etc. and on Reddit but I'm struggling to find an answer.

My parents are moving together with my grandma to a new house with a little annex for my grandma. They're planning to get Alexa's so that my grandma can call through to the other side of the house if she falls over or needs help. I would love for them not to end up giving every conversation they ever have to Amazon's servers... Is there any way to replicate this functionality in Home Assistant (i.e. call between satellites across the network)? If I can figure this out I'll build a self-hosted setup for them.
