Got a few questions in order to formulate a proper answer to your question.

-What format are your ebooks in? Is it an open or DRM restricted format?
-"It is the thing that has the best access to all my ebooks", can you explain your current process so we can see why it is currently working the best for you?

The 4 models could as well be:
    -512gb storage
    -2tb storage
-unit without storage but with ram
-unit without ram but with storage

So people who do have some sodimm ddr5 or storage spare, could buy these. Would make perfect sense during this memory shortage.

This is a new community dedicated to the Recalbox software, This software turns your hardware into a very capable Emulator machine.

Recalbox recently hit the v10 milestone. It runs on a lot of different hardware

    Steam Deck
    Raspberry Pi 500/400
    Raspberry Pi Zero 2
    Raspberry Pi Zero
    Raspberry Pi 1 (B/B+)
    Raspberry Pi 2
    Raspberry Pi 3 (B/B+)
    Raspberry Pi 4 (any version)
    Odroid XU4 PC (64bits)
Odroid Go Advance Odroid Go Super

All the supported systems it can emulate can be found here, it is a LOT: https://www.recalbox.com/database/

Next to that, you can also use it with moonlight. To stream games from your PC over the network (and thus also run Steam/Epic/PS3/Xbox/.. backups and so on.

Since there is already a pretty active French community on the centralized platforms (youtube,facebook,..) I would like to create a decentralized English platform for discussion.

Good tip indeed, and yes I did try it during my initial testing (didn't mention it since I am not sure on SC 2026 it is actually implemented). Tried also other combinations of holding select for a long time, etc.

To no avail though. :) Recalbox simply won't detect the controller even though the dongle is getting recognized as "ID 28de:1304 Valve Software Steam Ctrl (USB)". The old one is recognized as "ID 28de:1142 Valve Software Wireless Steam Controller".

Received the 2026 Steamcontroller today. First thing I did was connect it to my PC/Steam and updated the firmware of the puck and the controller itself.

Then tried it in a few different ways and I can tell that right now it does not work with Recalbox 10.0.5 at all. Tried the dongle directly in a usb3 port, as well as a through the official raspberry usb hub on the pi 400. While the dongle shows up with lsusb command, and the controller connects to the dongle, it is just impossible to get any input going on. Connected it directly with a USB cable trying to use it corded, to no avail.

Then I connected it through bluetooth to an apple tv 4k. Got it connected. Fired up Steam Link. Was able to play Assault Android Cactus, but Gas Guzzlers Extreme was simply a failure even after loading a community profile. Moonlight streaming with a Steamcontroller on apple tv is still a complete mess as the buttons are completely wrong with no way to fix it or remap them (steamcontroller 2015 has this very same issue).

Then connected it to my PC again and used Playnite (my launcher aggregator tool) to launch a steam game of Pinball FX2, since it uses very few buttons. It went well up to the point where I wanted to quit the game. Playnite and Steam started fighting, menu's popped up on the screen which I could not get to close with the gamepad. Actually I could not get playnite to close with the keyboard either so I had to go find the process in taskmanager and kill it.

I have to say, these things work pretty much all on the OG Steamcontroller 2015. Are the issues because the Steamcontroller 2026 does not have any form of Xinput when not directly attached to steam? Yes I think so..

It is a bit sad because when I am at the PC I game with keyboard and mouse. It is only when I am gaming on the TV in the living room that I want to use a gamepad. And on the TV I play all sort of games (Emulators on Recalbox, but also moonlight steaming PC games from my main pc (steam/ubisoft,epic,..) and moonlight streaming some heavy emulation (xemu,rpcs3,..) as well.

So right now, the Steamcontroller 2026 feels like a one trick pony to me: playing through PC+Steam using steam input only.
The OG Steamcontroller 2015 is currently way more useful and versatile since it can handle Xinput too.

What I also tried is check if the 2015 SC can connect to the new 2026 2.4ghz puck since it can handle 4 gamepads apparently. Maybe there is a way that I do not know, but I could not get it to work myself.

That's my experience after messing a few hours with the new Steamcontroller.

If I am somehow able to get it to work with Recalbox, I will definately post the solution here.

Anyone else who is using the OG Steamcontroller (2015) with recalbox just like I do?

Do you like/dislike it? Are you planning to get the new 2026 model?

Personally I like the SC 2015, altough it has it's quirks. Especially the lack of a normal D-pad can be frustrating. It often does not work in old platformers and in such games for me the only way is to use the left thumbstick instead. In other cases like the menu's and rpcs3 for example, the virtual D-pad does work very well.

Me myself I have just ordered the 2026 model. It has a real D-pad so I'm wondering it might be somewhat easier to get most of the games to play nice with it. Time will tell.

I mostly read comics and I like reading them on a tablet. Reading books and comics through the webinterface of my book management system (Komga) which is running on a local NAS. Since it accessible from any webbrowser, it is easily accessible.

Minor dislikes are the lack of some special options. -For example setting a permanent crop for all pages so it reads easily without white borders. -Or being able to read the top and bottom of a comic separately (for landscape reading), and still being able to scroll through it as if they are regular pages. -Color correct a book so it looks better on a specific device For such options however, I'm afraid a special software would be required. Which in turn comes with it's own negatives.

Hey welcome and thanks for chiming in.

I have to agree that most home users have no idea what MTU they are using, and it is typically going to be 1500 for their LAN. Their internet will be 1492. The internet is bandwidth limited anyway, it is best left alone. The LAN MTU however, most power users (even amateur ones) will make use of jumbo frames. Especially people who use backbones with greater than gigabit speeds (like myself). I believe Synology even ships their NAS systems with a default MTU of 9000.

If you want to test if jumbo frames are working between 2 nodes in your network, it is actually very easy to do. Assuming you have a 9000 packet size set:

ping <target ip> -f -l 8973 will return a "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set." message

    while

    ping <target ip> -f -l 8972 will return a normal ping reply saying "bytes=8972 time<1ms TTL=64"

When you get a ping reply with such a forced packet size, you also immediately know that your backbone/switch supports the forwarding of jumbo frames.

The use of jumbo frames with Moonlight might just be enough to stress the cpu a little less and thus you might be able to up the streaming bandwidth somewhat. An estimation? Max 10% gain, something like that. But on a raspberry pi, for a single core decoding application, you take any gains you can get ;)

  • Change MTU (lemmy.zip)

Since almost all important devices in my network use an MTU (maximum transmission unit) of 9000, I looked high and low on how to change it on recalbox. The reason is that I wanted to try and optimize the Moonlight streaming as much as possible. By having less overhead, the cpu would maybe get a little more headroom (theoretically).

What I found is that at least currently, it IS possible to change it on a raspberry pi by issuing the command in SSH. This changes it temporary for testing sudo ip link set dev eth0 mtu 9000

    or permanently `sudo nano /etc/dhcpcd.conf

    interface eth0 static ip_address=192.168.1.50/24 static routers=192.168.1.1 static domain_name_servers=192.168.1.1 mtu 1400 `

BUT, this only works when running an OS that supports this change (Raspberry Pi OS for example).

When it comes to Recalbox, apparently it is not supported to change MTU and it will always use the default,

I am not sure how much the MTU would change things, if at all. But it would be nice to have been able to test it. Currently that does not seem possible. Maybe in the future.

A short intro regarding the purpose of this community.

If you are solely making use of project Gutenberg (gutenberg.org) or use a subscription book reading service, you will probably never face any issues reading your books and finding the exact book that you are looking for.

However, for all people who collect books (physical) or ebooks (digital), you will need to think about how to organize them at some point.

Here comes the Ebook Management community, where we discuss ebooks and how to organize and handle them in the most effective way.

Personally I have tried and used some of the options, but eventually I put my NAS to work. A docker container running Komga (komga.org) is what I am using with great pleasure. Either for books (mostly epub and pdf) as well as comics (cbz).

Let this new community know your struggles regarding ebooks and how you have overcome them. What software, formats you are using and so on.

    Welcome!

Welcome all. I am personally using recalbox on a Raspberry Pi 400, overclocked to 2147/650. 1 Gbit network on the Raspberry is connected through cable.

The max I can get moonlight to stream games from the main PC (sunlight) is this: 1080p 60fps 12Mbit (higher than 13 causes stutter since the raspberry pi 400 can not cope anymore)

HOST/SUNSHINE settings for AMD 7900XT: FEC percentage=0 Quantization Parameter=0 Minimum Thread count=4 AMF Variance Based Adaptive Quantization (VBAQ)=1

This maxes 1 core on the Raspberry Pi 400 almost out completely during decoding. And since moonlight is a single core operation, there is no more headroom.

What is the hardware combination you are all using, and what is the maximum streaming settings that you are able to achieve?
