Britain faces its “greatest risk” of war in decades as Russia continues to test NATO defences, Defence Secretary Wes Streeting has warned, as the government prepares to make the case for a sustained increase in military spending.

Streeting described Russia and Vladimir Putin as the “biggest threat” facing Britain, arguing that the war in Ukraine and Moscow’s broader military posture had fundamentally altered the security environment facing the UK.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest threat facing Britain is Russia and President Putin,” said Streeting.

“We’ve got war in our continent. We’ve got a Russian president who has imperialist ambitions, who is constantly testing Britain’s defences, NATO defences and testing the strength of our alliances.

“And so, the sobering reality is that we face a greater risk of war than we’ve done at any point in my lifetime.”

Children in Russian kindergartens will be taught more “moral guidelines” than counting and writing, said the head of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation Sergey Kravtsov. “Acquaintance with native culture, literature, customs and moral guidelines is more important than "memorizing letters and numbers."

...

Earlier, Kravtsov said that in Russian kindergartens, the projects “Eagle-Preschool” and “Good Games” were launched, aimed at instilling “traditional spiritual and moral values” in children.

According to the methodical materials of the Good Games, children from the age of 3 should be told about the annexation of Crimea and form their idea of the peninsula as a “region of Russia”. This, according to the Ministry of Education, will cause “patriotic feelings and pride for their country” among preschoolers. Also, the games are designed to educate children “heroism”, which in the materials of the project is defined as “the highest manifestation of love for the Motherland and people” and “willingness to sacrifice themselves for the sake of others.”

...

“Good Games” is an analogue of the propaganda “Talk about the important” that appeared in Russian schools after the invasion of Ukraine. Initially, the project for preschoolers was tested under this name: testing took place from September to December 2025 in 56 kindergartens in 25 regions. In February 2026, it was renamed.

Sheinbaum’s comments came after a week of increasing threats from Washington. US officials briefed that gunboats could be deployed off Cuba, and said efforts were under way to find Cuban ministers prepared to collaborate with the US.

Speaking on Wednesday, Mike Hammer, the US chargé d’affaires in Havana, said: “The Cubans have complained for years about a ‘blockade’, but now there is going to be a real blockade.”

So there are a few possible reasons I can see with this

  1. The fear is truly unfounded
  2. The fear is founded, but .cafe being so small, he doesn't care to lend a hand and can use it for examples should this fear conversation become more serious. Dessalines is a lot of things, but he's not dumb
  3. The fear is founded, but because it's an issue that could potentially affect any instance large or small they decided to deal with it. Vs say if .world decided to defederate and then ran into an issue that mostly just affected them because of their size, maybe they'll "give the run around" instead or ignore the issue until it affects an instance they care about

Sorry if I phrased it weirdly, I didn't mean to imply that threats had been made (which I mean, dessalines is smarter than that, because like you said it would blow the Lemmy-verse up if he actually made a threat), but rather it's a fear that's out there.

But like I said, I have confirmation of that fear in a DM from a major instance admin. Whether or not that fear is founded and justified or not, is up for debate. But it exists and it's a factor in the decision making process

I don't really consider infosec.pub to be a "major" instance, it's only at ~300 MAUs iirc, by "major" I'm thinking .world or SJW or blahaj

In any case, I'm almost positive I've seen it mentioned publicly in one of those big threads, maybe the donation ones a few months back. It was also told to me point blank by an admin of one of said major instances in a DM, but I am unsure how or even if I can release that considering it was told to me in private

Well the PF instances don't really have an excuse, though iirc the flagship PF does defed (or maybe it was a default block?) from the entire Triad

But it has come up that some major instances have a big concern in that if they defed from .ml dessalines will pull back support from them in retaliation

Which is always a fantastic healthy green flag of a relationship/s

know cm0002 cross-posts (in an automated fashion)

Not automated, all my posts and crosspost are 100% done by my 2 hands lol

I don't mind consolidation to a non-.ml comm, provided ofc the other comm is open to it as well

made an account on an instance that was less than a day old

Honestly, I had no idea that they were only open for a day, I just peruse Lemmyverse.net and pick instances that seem interesting or have funny/cool sounding names 😂
