Cyclomatic complexity is like trying to measure complexity of a mathematical formula by the counting penstrokes. Don't mistake a metric's ease of measurement for its correctness, see: productivity vs lines of code.

Every point under "Why?" is too optimistic about forced deconstructions being good, that all the small pieces will be cut along the right seams.

Breaking up a messy scribble in the wrong places just leaves you with the same messy knot, now as a shuffled jigsaw puzzle.

If the code is written for humans, then excercise human judgement and use a relaxed "complexity metric". If the code is written for agents, then this metric matters even less. If forced to pick a number, I'd use something like 50+ to only alert on the truly excessive.

Passkeys are good at the fundamental level, but the practical implementation is lacking, despite their efforts.

IMO best way is /w a pw manager that's also backed up, available, and synced everywhere you need it, but that's a hurdle for most users.

I think the "intended way for normal ppl" is to set multiple keys, each on their trusted devices, like backup physical keys, but that's kind of a pain to have for every service, too.

Depends how much it matters. See if you can get the business to put it in dollar value terms or at least as opportunity costs against other eng work.

Would be sort of a spike project, but would be interested to see how well off-the-shelf VLMs could handle screenshot comparisons, and then a bit extra to see how to deploy them efficiently and effectively.

    Refactor first

Engineering has to draw the line somewhere. Excuse my analogy, but if the order is "you are not allowed to clean up the construction site, only build", and there's so much crap around that it's no longer safe, then the answer is, "no, I can't work like this, find someone else to do it"

That said, there is an art to working in and managing tech debt. The amazing thing about software is how flexible and how twisted it can get behind the external interface

the GUIs people build aren’t good enough

    Big agree

TUIs are inherently better than GUIs

Perhaps not inherently, but TUI users have much less tolerance for "lag", so TUI apps are built to that expectation. That's often not the case for GUIs.

Why is right-to-left for WHOLE PARAGRAPHS possible for Arabic languages, but not for CJK nor the Latin alphabet?
