Kate is what I use. It works perfectly fine and there aren't any features I need that it doesn't have.

I guess the kids would call it vibes. It's just what I want. Maybe I'll give the fork a try.

Looks like there's maintained fork for Linux on Github. Can you tell why Kate doesn't quite replace npp for you?
