No problem, it's a bit dated now but fundamentally it's the same thing π

Thanks for this, I was using the official site, but I have become stuck early on, so I will read over this and hopefully help me.
Very cool to get another look at what people are building! I definitely plan to get set up as soon as I have time.
Perhaps I'm still thinking too much in TCP/IP but I'm having trouble with this section:
Your node is not identified by a domain name or an IP address β instead it generates a cryptographic hash unique to the node when the node is created, and that is used to find and identify the node on the peer-to-peer Reticulum mesh network. Therefore, you donβt need to open any ports on your firewall to serve NomadNet pages.
This sounds great, but I don't really get how it works. (I had trouble understanding it when I read the original reticulum docs too, and just sort of filed it under 'sounds kinda like tor, which I also don't understand'.)
Guess ease of use and + 40k nodes available around the world?
This one is open source for companion https://nodakmesh.org/blog/meshcore-open-app-free-open-source-meshcore-client
Why are people switching to meshcore?
I've heard of it , but everybody is switching to meshcore. https://map.meshcore.io/
Sometimes the link freezes ,just wait .
Meshtastic is also worth looking into. It's the open source version of meshcore
No experience, I'm reading up on meshcore and reticulum, just discovered https://ratspeak.org/
Meshcore is more widespread and grows faster than Reticulum here in Europe.
Geogram looks really cool. I've never heard of it before. Do you have any experience using it?
Is geogram.radio and columba.network also just like reticulum?
Looks to be, the last update on the github was a month ago.
EDIT: Ah, looking closer, it seems the main dev stepped back from the project in December, and I'm unsure where the community is continuing its development, so it may be in a standstill unless someone else maintains it.
Is it still getting updated?
No prob! ^^
I've been waiting for another post from this com for a while now. The first post I saw I forgot to subscribe and couldn't remember the name when I wanted to research it.
I really love the idea so I'm going to try it out. Looks like a fun project.
Thanks!
Perfect, let me know how it goes!
I've been hoping to get started with it - this'll be a big help!
Thanks! I like to explain things in a language that regular bright people can understand and avoid being too techy, because in my mind a lot of tech language is designed to make things sound difficult and therefore expensive.
The project itself is documented really well, though, best I've seen in a long long time.
I really like the examples and plain language you used for this article! I wish I had this when I first stated. Also I haven't touched it in about a year or so. So its a good refresher.
RNode and Meshtastic cannot interact.
I did ask in the Reticulum Discord if it was possible to run Reticulum over Meshtastic by using the serial transport in Reticulum connected to the serial module in Meshtastic. It is technically possible but inefficient. The person who answered my question said you'd need to use Meshtastic in ShortFast mode to make it even remotely practical.
Essentially it was using the serial transport connected to a Meshtastic node in place of the RNode thus allowing the Meshtastic device to perform the role of both.
[Reticulum] --Serial Transport---> Meshtastic Node's UART1 ---> Meshtastic Serial Module --->Meshtastic LoRa ---> Remote Meshtastic Node's Serial Channel --> Remote Meshtastic Nodes UART1 --> [Remote Reticulum Client]
They also pointed me to a Github project of theirs that basically did just that, but I cannot for the life of me find it to link it.
This sounds really cool! I like that this and NomadNet seem to bundle hosting in with browsing/viewing. It feels like lowering the barrier for entry on self hosting nicely.
That makes sense, similar use case and a more active community - I'll see what I can find
I used heltec v3's or for the LoRa hardware you could look at what is popular with meshtastic now. A lot of what I've learned was from YouTube and the different project sites.
